Jen McDonald, LCSW

I’m so thankful you have made it to this point in your search to find a therapist. Let me introduce myself, I’m Jen McDonald, LCSW. My desire is to create a space for growth and healing. I believe my role is to walk alongside you as you navigate your healing journey. My hope is to provide a comfortable and safe space where you can show up as your authentic self and know that you are not alone in your pain and struggles. I truly believe therapy is most successful when you are connected with the right therapist, so I wanted to share a bit about me.

My background…

I attended a few colleges throughout my tenure but ended up at The University of Texas at Arlington where I received both my Bachelors of Social Work and Masters of Social Work degrees. I have worked in the mental health field for over 15 years. Many of those years were spent in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. I’ve worked with all ages in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Over the years my passion to be providing 1:1 therapy has continued to grow and that spurred me on to get my clinical license and am currently a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and approach therapy in a very holistic manner. I believe the mind and body are connected and that your brain truly has a desire for healing. {For more information on EMDR check out the blog}

My why…

There have been many pivotal moments in my life that have brought me to where I am at today with a desire to walk alongside women who are struggling. The first came after undergrad when I packed up my car and moved to East Texas to work/live at a therapeutic boarding school. It was there that the passion for walking alongside people who were struggling was born. It was also the time in which I began my own healing journey from past hurts. After my time there I ventured back into the academic world to receive my Masters of Social Work from The University of Texas at Arlington. I would spend the next few years working within the non-profit world providing mental health services in the community.

The next pivotal moment happened in 2019, I got pregnant with TWINS! I had a great pregnancy but was considered high risk and ended up delivering prematurely (for more of my traumatic birth story, head to the blog!). We ended up having a NICU stay and I can confidently say that was one of the hardest experiences of my life. I can look back at that season now and see how critical the love and support that I had was to me. As I’ve been navigating motherhood since then I’ve been more and more aware that life is HARD and out of that a new passion to walk alongside women was born. I spent much of my adult life in singleness and that was hard, then I got married and had babies and that was just as hard. It’s made me realize that all seasons of life bring about different struggles, and has stirred within me a desire to walk alongside those in the midst of the struggle, whatever it may be in their season of life.

My life…

On a personal note, I am a wife, mama to identical twin girls and an Enneagram #2 wing 1. When I’m not in the therapy room I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love to travel (my favorite places to visit have been the beaches of Brazil and Thailand). We have a goal to visit all 50 states before our girls graduate high school and I’m so glad that I now get to share my love for travel with my family! My love language is quality time but I’m also an introvert by nature, so I love to be with people but also thrive off of alone time. I am a big fan of board games, I enjoy to read, do crafty things, be in nature and love to bake! In the warm weather months I long to be by the pool on a daily basis and in the winter you can often find my bundled up by the fireplace!
